In May 2021, Hugh and Bethany set to the grand task of inaugurating the St Sigfrid's Way. The English route was walked by them both, along with around 80 others who joined at various points for various stretches along the way.
Despite our best efforts, we weren't able to charter a boat to sail across to Sweden, and due to complexities with border control (during the pandemic) it also wasn't possible to go by land. So Hugh resorted to flying to Sweden, where he joined with the Swedish pilgrims and walked the remainder of the pilgrimage to Vaxjo, the final destination, which he reached with Dagmar Jonsson on August 28th 2021.
We are now working on making the route accessible to others, particularly in relation to accommodation. Our hope is that churches along the route will become St Sigfrid's Way Sanctuary churches, where pilgrims can sleep in exchange for a small donation.
